Seton Defense Suffocates Ursuline en Route to Win

It was a Girls Greater Catholic League battle at the second game of the Holiday Hardwood Classic as the Seton Saints took on the Ursuline Academy Lions at the Cintas Center.

The scoring opened with five straight points by Ursuline freshman guard Maria Garza, followed by both teams trading threes. A high-scoring first quarter ended with Ursuline holding a 16-12 lead.

Seton opened the second quarter on a 15-0 run including eight points by sophomore Aubri Korfhagen to take a 29-16 lead into the locker room. Ursuline did not score in the second quarter.

The third quarter began with a Korfhagen layup and ended 35-16, with Ursuline again finding themselves shutout for the second consecutive quarter after scoring 16 in the opening frame.

Finally, Ursuline scored their first points since the first quarter with 5:50 left in the fourth on a three-pointer by junior forward Lauren Reed, who added a layup shortly after. The Lions continued their crazy scoring trends and ultimately went on a 11-3 run cut the Seton lead to 38-27 with 2:13 to go. An and-one by Seton sophomore Lauren Bain ended the run and the Saints ultimately took home a 45-27 victory.
