Cooper Defeats CHCA 79-63 in Holiday Hardwood Classic




The second game featured the Cooper Jaguars from Union, Kentucky taking on Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. The first basket was scored by Cooper's Shaun Pouncey, and Cooper added another layup before CHCA's Griffin Ridner-Richard notched the first points for CHCA. Cooper started the game on a 10-4 run before a timeout was called. An and-one by CHCA's Luke Sanders trimmed the deficit to 10-7, but Cooper went on a 16-3 run to end the frame and held a 26-10 lead.


CHCA began the second quarter on a 11-5 run, which was followed by three pointers by Cooper's Isaac Brown and Isaiah Johnson and CHCA's Jason Caimano. An and-one from Cooper's Yamil Rondon capped off a frenetic few minutes. A thunderous dunk by Shaun Pouncey pushed the Jaguar lead to 42-25 with 2:51 remaining in the first half. A few buckets by Sanders helped CHCA cut the deficit slightly to head into the half with Cooper on top 44-31.


The second half started the same way, with Cooper's Evan Blackburn knocking down a corner three-pointer to open the scoring. Cooper extended their lead on a three-point play by Rondon, putting the Jaguars in front 59-39 with 2:15 remaining in the third frame. Ultimarely, the Jaguars led 61-42 after three.


A beautiful alley-oop slam from Rondon to Pouncey started off the fourth quarter, which was more of the same as Cooper took home a 79-63 victory.


Yamil Rondon was named the LaRosa's Player of the Game.
